Building Cisco Multilayer Switched Networks (BCMSN)
The BSMSN 3.0 course is recommended training for individuals seeking certification as a Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP). In this course, students will learn how to create an efficient and expandable enterprise network by installing, configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting network infrastructure equipment (especially Catalyst Multilayer Switches) according to the Campus Infrastructure module in the Enterprise Composite Network model. The campus switched network includes converged IP data, IPC (voice), and Airspace WLAN (Wireless) connectivity.
Intended Audience
The primary audiences for Building Cisco Multilayer Switched Networks are:
Network administrators and technicians who are responsible for implementing or troubleshooting a multilayer switched network in an enterprise environment.
CCNP and CCDP candidates

Skills
After completing this course, students will be able to:
Use the Campus Infrastructure module of the Enterprise Composite Network Model to deploy an efficient and expandable enterprise network
Define VLANs to segment network traffic and manage network utilization
Implement STP to accelerate network traffic convergence in Layer 2
Troubleshoot spanning tree, and identify enhancements provided by RSTP and MST
Implement multilayer switching to enable higher data throughput between isolated VLANs
Implement redundancy in the routing layer to improve and ensure end-to-end availability of network services
Secure switches in the Campus Infrastructure module against data theft and service loss in the event of network compromise
Configure the campus switches to optimize traffic flow when voice, video, and data applications traverse a single converged network
Prerequisites
To fully benefit from BCMSN, students must have the following prerequisite skills and knowledge:
Basic router configuration
Basic switch configuration
Basic VLAN configuration
Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) configuration
Basic trunking configuration
Standard access list configuration
Note: These topics are covered in the Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices (ICND) course. A student enrolled in the Cisco Career Certification program must be a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) prior to taking this course. Students not seeking certification still must complete the prerequisite courses before enrolling in this course.
