NEBOSH General Certificate Course Content

There are two units: NG1 and NG2

Unit NG1: Health and Safety Management

When studying this unit, course participants will learn about:

• Why successful management of health and safety at work is important
• Health and safety management systems: what they look like and how they work
• The people and processes involved when managing risk in the workplace
• Keeping track of and measuring workplace health and safety

Exeter students are required to sit an at-home open book exam at the end of Unit NG1.

Unit NG2: Risk Assessment

When studying this unit, course participants will learn about:

• Physical and psychological health
• Musculoskeletal health
• Chemical and biological agents
• General workplace issues
• Workplace equipment
• Fire
• Electricity

Exeter students are required to take a practical risk assessment at their workplace at the end of Unit NG2.

Students will achieve the following learning outcomes at the end of the NEBOSH General Certificate:

• Successfully carry out workplace risk assessments.
• Devise and implement detailed action plans after risk assessments
• The skills to identify and manage everyday hazards at work
