If you are working in, or planning on going to work in, the area of health and safety, you may well wish to consider the various NEBOSH courses that we provide at Total Training Solutions.
The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health was founded in 1979 and is in the forefront of improvements to global health and safety, making changes that have saved countless injuries and lives. NEBOSH has developed 33 qualifications and has had over 400,000 people take their exams which are now available in over 130 countries.
Very many job advertisements for health and safety executives specify that certain NEBOSH qualifications are a requirement. In fact, some 87% of UK employers require a NEBOSH qualification when recruiting for health and safety positions. The courses are varied, and they cover the demand for all levels of staff in a range of different working environments.
The courses offer globally recognised qualifications such as the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety. These are perfect as a starting point for a career in health and safety. There are also courses that cover fire safety and risk management and for the construction industry, which can obviously be fraught with potential dangers.
The NEBOSH National General Certificate is an excellent starting point for people wishing to embark on a career in health and safety and is a Level 3 qualification which is the equivalent of an A Level. It is also perfect for a manager or supervisor with responsibilities for health and safety.
If you are looking for NEBOSH training in Leeds, at Total Training Solutions we can provide this in the classroom, online, or as in-house training. The in-house or classroom training takes place over ten days and includes an open book exam which you can do from home, and a second exam which is a practical exam and is carried out at your workplace. The exam cost is included in the price of the course.
The NEBOSH National General Certificate course is split into two segments, the first of which, Unit NG1, covers the management of health and safety – why we need to manage health and safety in the workplace, how the health and safety systems work, managing risk, and monitoring and measuring health and safety.
Unit NG2 deals with Risk Assessment and covers the following sections:
- Element 5 Physical and psychological health.
- Element 6 Musculoskeletal health.
- Element 7 Chemical and biological agents.
- Element 8 General workplace issues.
- Element 9 Work equipment.
- Element 10 Fire.
- Element 11 Electricity.
We can also provide you with NEBOSH National General Certificate Audiobooks and Revision Modules.
In addition to the NEBOSH National General Certificate course, we can also provide you with training for the NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety. This is considered to be the “gold standard” in health and safety qualifications and is the equivalent of a degree. According to the NEBOSH website in May 2019, nearly half of advertisements for health and safety positions specify a NEBOSH National Diploma as a requirement, and 40% of people who obtain the National Diploma gain an increase in their salary. Anyone who obtains the National Diploma is also eligible to apply for Graduate Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health and is entitled to use Grad IOSH after their name.
The NEBOSH National Diploma is spread over four units, three of which are taught, and one which is practical. Unit A covers managing health and safety, Unit B covers hazardous substances, Unit C deals with workplace and work equipment safety. Unit DN1 is the application of health and safety in the workplace.
The foregoing are just two of the NEBOSH qualifications: there are a further 31 covering different areas of work. At Total Training Solutions we provide courses covering the NEBOSH National Construction Certificate and the NEBOSH Fire Certificate as well. Further courses cover the NEBOSH International Certificate in Oil and Gas Safety, the NEBOSH International Certificate in Construction Health and Safety, and the NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate among others.
