NEBOSH is the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health, and it was founded in 1979. It provides health, safety, and environmental qualifications which are recognised across the globe. Such qualifications help to raise awareness of health and safety as well as the abilities of health and safety professionals and individuals at all levels in the workplace.

Since its’ inception, over 400,000 people worldwide have gained a qualification, and thousands more do so each year as they study with a network of over 600 learning partners such as ourselves at Total Training Solutions. You can undertake a NEBOSH course in Newcastle that is organised by us.

By improving people’s awareness and knowledge of health, safety, risk, and environment in the workplace, it can lead to a lower number of accidents and resulting ill-health by improving the environment, and as a by-product can lead to improved productivity, and thus is to the benefit of employers everywhere. NEBOSH works with organisations such as HSE, INSHPO, BCSP, RoSPA, IIRSM, and government bodies to raise the profile and recognition of the profession, raise standards, and share best practice to further educational opportunities.

Both the NEBOSH General Certificate and the NEBOSH International General Certificate are a good grounding for those who wish to progress to a NEBOSH National Diploma, and they do not require any previous knowledge of health and safety. The NEBOSH National Diploma is the equivalent of a full honours degree.

The NEBOSH National General Certificate is specified as a requirement in the majority of job adverts for health and safety employees, and this means that if you have this qualification your job prospects are far greater. Holders of the National General Certificate are allowed to apply for technical membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (Tech IOSH). It is then possible to progress to the NEBOSH National Diploma (Grad IOSH), and from there to chartered status (CMIOSH).

There is also a NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety, and this is aimed at managers and supervisors in construction who need to be able to ensure that activities that take place in construction are carried out in accordance with recommendations and with due regard to health and safety of workers and all those coming into contact with construction sites. This can include members of the general public who might simply walk by a site where there is scaffolding on a pavement for instance.

You might want to choose the course to achieve the NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Health. This is a leading course for managers who need to ensure that their corporation is compliant with all the fire safety legislation and is also suitable for those who want to pursue a career in fire risk assessment which can be an exciting and rewarding way to earn a living.

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Act 2005 requires all employers, landlords, building managers, and anyone in control of a workplace or public building, to undertake a fire risk assessment and in most cases keep a written record of it. The issue here is that the “responsible person” in most instances has no training in fire risk assessment whatsoever, so the majority of businesses outsource the assessment to specialist companies and individuals who have the necessary abilities.

At Total Training Solutions, we provide not only on-site learning in Newcastle but also eLearning. Using the latest technologies, our eLearning allows students to join in with an instructor-led class and interact with the instructor and other students in the same way as if everyone was in a classroom. This has several benefits for both businesses and students. Businesses can train several employees together in their own location.

For students our eLearning means that there is no need to spend time travelling to a class, and they can also study at their own pace directly from the desktop. Our eLearning class sizes are kept small and to the same standard as a physical classroom, so students can interact with the instructor without there being too many people present.
